Fans Raise Concerns After Bart Simpson’s Voice Actor Responds to Questions

Bart Simpson’s voice actor, Nancy Cartwright, recently participated in a Q&A, but not all fan questions were addressed.

Nancy Cartwright is widely recognized for her role as the voice of Bart Simpson and other characters on the iconic animated show The Simpsons, which has been on air for decades.

In 2023, Cartwright was acknowledged for her contributions with an award for achieving ‘Patron Excalibur with Honours,’ having donated $21 million to the Church of Scientology.

A devoted follower of Scientology, founded by writer L. Ron Hubbard, Cartwright has shown considerable generosity since joining the religion in 1991, continuously supporting it with significant donations.

Recently, Cartwright participated in a Reddit ‘ask me anything’ session, where fans were eager to explore her career and gain insights into the making of the beloved cartoon.

However, a separate discussion thread pointed out that her association with Scientology was notably absent from the conversation, despite it being as well-known as her role as Bart Simpson.

“She is known for exactly two things: voicing Bart and being a Scientologist,” remarked one Reddit user, sparking curiosity about the initial Q&A thread.

“She f***ing donated 10 million!! She isn’t some lowly member,” added another user, while a third commented: “Ask Me Anything… Well, not anything.”

“First thing I did was search for any scientology questions, and I found the conspicuous absence pretty telling. I wasn’t surprised, but it still kind of irked me,” another user observed.

It appears that moderators may have filtered out any questions related to Scientology, keeping the focus on Cartwright’s work with The Simpsons.

Additionally, some fans were surprised that the connection between Cartwright and her niece, Sabrina Carpenter, was not mentioned.

Despite the omissions, many fans expressed gratitude for Cartwright’s impact on generations through her work in television, including shows like Rugrats.

“Thank you so much for all that you’ve given and your brilliant performances!” wrote one fan, who then inquired about changes in Bart’s character over the years.

“Actually, when we were on the Tracey Ullman show, I think Bart was mostly antagonistic and that definitely has a sort of humor to it, but mostly because people are rejecting him being so mean,” Cartwright explained.

“When we switched to the half hour episodes, you need a more dimensional character. There’s more opportunity to have humor that’s not solely based on violence and beating up Lisa. As the years have gone by it’s been more about Bart’s antics and more good-natured situations he gets in.”

Cartwright also shared the moment she realized The Simpsons was destined for success.

“I don’t remember exactly but it was sometime in the early 90s.

“We had only done a few seasons and I remember that I was turning down more requested auditions than what I was actually auditioning for.”

She added, “As I was looking at a part that someone wanted me to read for I just went: ‘The Simpsons is gonna be huge!’

“So I decided not to take up more roles from other upcoming voice actresses and just dedicate myself to Bart and the rest of my characters.”

Cartwright humorously interacted with fans, using Bart’s famous catchphrase, “Eat my shorts,” and mentioned that she needs lozenges when working on a ‘Nelson-heavy script’.

The team reached out to the Church of Scientology for any comments on the matter.
