Unusual circumstance led Melania to sign Trump’s executive order without holding authority

Despite not holding an official position or wielding any formal power, Melania Trump recently put her name on an executive order, marking another instance of her involvement in such actions.

Donald Trump has been known for signing numerous executive orders during his time in office, many of which have sparked controversy, such as the ‘big beautiful bill.’ Typically, it is the president who signs these orders, but in this case, the first lady has also been involved.

Melania Trump joined her husband in signing an executive order aimed at expanding resources for the foster care system. The initiative, titled ‘Fostering the Future for American Children and Family,’ was organized by the first lady and calls for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to revamp the foster care system. This includes implementing a new annual scorecard to evaluate how states are providing for foster care needs.

The goal is to improve access to educational resources for those in foster care, which is expected to enhance their job prospects in the future.

In a statement from the Office of the First Lady, Melania expressed her admiration for the collaborative spirit of the initiative: “It’s truly inspiring to see everyone gathered here together, united in support of this remarkable initiative and community. As I stand here and observe the audience, I recognize the vital importance of each one of you—to this mission—to our future generations.”

She continued, “In particular, I would like to thank the cabinet secretaries, congress members, scholarship donors, and various organizations for their unending advocacy.”

“A special thank you to my husband for his enduring commitment to Fostering the Future. The President has prioritized America’s foster care children, and shortly, he will sign our Fostering the Future Executive Order.”

Melania’s participation in signing the executive order was largely ceremonial, as she has been involved with the ‘Fostering the Future’ initiative since 2021.

Earlier in the year, she became the first first lady to sign a bill into law, adding her signature to the Take it Down Act alongside her husband’s as a symbolic gesture, recognizing her advocacy for revenge porn legislation.

The new foster care legislation has drawn mixed reactions. Some critics see it as a diversion from ongoing controversies surrounding Donald Trump’s connections with Jeffrey Epstein.

One person commented, “Signing a worthless Executive Order regarding those raised in Foster Care the day after Epstein emails were released.”

Another critic commented on Melania’s infrequent public appearances, saying, “How kind of her to pretend to be a First Lady for the day.”

Referencing the ongoing renovations at the White House, another individual remarked, “Is she set up in the Oval since hubby demolished her offices in the East Wing??”

Despite the criticism, many have praised the initiative, describing it as ‘truly inspiring.’

This effort to support foster care children is part of Melania’s broader ‘Be Best’ campaign, which focuses on child welfare and anti-bullying initiatives.

Melania shared her aspirations for the initiative: “My hope, of course, is that this level of coordinated collaboration will sustain. But today, I call on leadership from these various organizations, including the private sector, to join my effort. Rise above the ease of inaction.”

“I predict this small spark today will ignite a profound and lasting nationwide movement. Our united resolve will foster a thriving future filled with compassion and innovation.”

“Together, we will illuminate the pathway for today’s foster children to become tomorrow’s builders.”
