Ex-Trump Ally, Now Critic, Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces Resignation

Marjorie Taylor Greene, once a fervent supporter of the MAGA movement and a previously strong ally of Donald Trump, has surprised many by announcing her resignation from Congress.

Greene’s relationship with Trump was once friendly, but it has soured recently due to her persistent advocacy for the release of all documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile.

Her vocal stance on the Epstein files prompted the former president to publicly label her a ‘lunatic’ on Truth Social, leading to her decision to step down.

In a statement shared on X, Greene expressed her frustration: “Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich powerful men, should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for.”

Greene further stated that her last day in office will be January 5.

A committed hard-right Republican, Greene was a key proponent of the Make America Great Again movement, which was central to Trump’s initial presidential campaign.

However, Greene has also been known for her controversial views, particularly her propensity to believe conspiracy theories and her provocative statements, such as equating pandemic mask mandates with the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust.

Throughout her tenure, she has seemingly supported violence against Democratic opponents and has recently clashed with Trump over issues like U.S. military aid to Israel and the Epstein controversy.

Recently, Greene disclosed that private security firms had warned her about threats to her safety.

In a post on X, she mentioned that “a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.” Though she did not directly name Trump, she hinted at his identity by describing him as “the man I supported and helped get elected.”

Greene also stated that “aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of men who were radicalized by the same type rhetoric being directed at me right now. This time by the President of the United States.”

While Greene did not specify the threats she had received, she emphasized, “as a woman I take threats from men seriously. I now have a small understanding of the fear and pressure the women, who are victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal, must feel.”
