Donald Trump has openly expressed his thoughts on Marjorie Taylor Greene’s announcement to leave Congress, shortly after he labeled her a ‘traitor.’
The President has been engaged in a tense conflict with Greene over the past few months, following her persistent push for the release of files from the DOJ concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his connections.
Once a staunch ally of Trump, Greene ardently supported numerous Make America Great Again initiatives during his initial presidency.
However, their alliance has deteriorated recently, with Trump calling her a ‘traitor’ following her criticism of several of his policy decisions.
On Friday, November 21, Greene issued a detailed statement confirming her intention to resign as the representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district in 2026.
After the news emerged, Trump addressed the resignation in a phone interview with ABC, stating, “I think it’s great news for the country. It’s great.”

When asked by journalist Rachel Scott if he had any prior knowledge of Greene’s resignation, Trump replied, “Nah, it doesn’t matter, you know but I think it’s great. I think she should be happy.”
In Greene’s announcement, she stated that her resignation will be effective from January 5, 2026.
Her farewell message, shared as both a video and a transcript, criticized her Republican colleagues for their involvement in the recent government shutdown and defended her own voting record on pivotal issues like firearms, abortion, and border security.
She further elaborated that she did not want to be compelled to defend Trump after he withdrew his endorsement of her last week.
“I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” Greene stated.

Earlier this month, Greene criticized Trump for prioritizing foreign policy over domestic matters, a criticism that Trump did not take kindly to.
“She’s lost her way, I think. But I have to view the presidency as a worldwide situation, not locally,” he stated on the same day.
As Greene’s criticism of Trump escalated, his supporters began to turn against her, leading to threats against her life.
Commenting on these threats in his typically direct manner, Trump dismissed the idea that she was in any real danger, further stoking the situation by saying: “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene. I don’t think her life is in danger, I don’t think”
“Frankly, I don’t think anybody cares about her.”
