Ruth Codd, a well-known figure on Netflix, shared the difficult reality of her significant injury, which resulted in the amputation of both her legs.
At 29, Codd has made a name for herself in several prominent roles, such as in The Midnight Club, How To Train Your Dragon, The Fall of the House of Usher, and most recently, The Celebrity Traitors.
While audiences have seen different facets of Codd on the BBC program, she also shares her experiences on TikTok.
Codd faced immense challenges over the past few years, beginning with the amputation of one leg at 23, following a soccer injury at age 15 that never healed properly.
She has since undergone a second below-the-knee amputation, revealing in a TikTok video: “Hi guys, so I have some good news and some bad news. Good news, we’ve had a full circle moment, I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house.”

She continued: “Bad news, I can’t do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper anymore, due to the fact that, that room is upstairs, and I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation.
“So unfortunately, those facilities are not available to me at the current moment in time, yes, so lots of unpack there for everyone involved.”
Originally from Ireland, Codd previously wrote a heartfelt account for the Irish Examiner, discussing the difficulties she has faced in recent years.
In her 2022 piece, she expressed: “People often tell me I need to be more positive and I’m like; ‘Don’t stand there in front of me with your two perfectly working legs and tell me that.’
“My injury is the greatest challenge I’ve faced in my life so far. I injured it playing soccer at the age of 15. It never healed correctly so until I was 23, I was on and off crutches, getting loads of operations. Because of nerve damage and chronic pain, I chose to get it amputated.”
Codd further explained her eight-year ordeal of hospital visits, revealing that her ‘whole life revolved around trying to heal my leg’.

She continued: “For years, I didn’t see it getting any better. I was stuck in a really bad mindset and I was p***ed off at life. When I made the decision to amputate it, things finally started to turn around. It was a relief. I could get on my life.
“I was just messing around in school and fell over playing soccer, which is the worst part because I don’t even like soccer. At least I could have gone out in blaze of glory doing something that I loved but – no!”
While on Under Your Skin with Grace Neutral, Codd discussed her decision for a second amputation, emphasizing it would improve her ‘quality of life’.
She explained: “It’s just that this foot, I was on crutches for the bones of eight years and the way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes,” she said prior to the procedure.
“So the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end of the eight years. And it’s just kind of the same thing. It’s gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it.”
