If there’s someone who can keep Kim Kardashian grounded, it might just be her 12-year-old daughter, North West.
Known for her candidness, North hasn’t hesitated to criticize her mother’s fashion choices, famously comparing Kim’s 2021 Met Gala ensemble to a ‘plastic bag’.
North maintained her candid approach on the latest episode of The Kardashians, which provided a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s Gala and the last-minute preparations for the 45-year-old SKIMS founder’s outfit.
With Kim stressing over her snug black leather dress, North’s patience wore thin, and she offered her mom some blunt reassurance.
“What’s the worst that could happen? People hate on your outfit? They do that every year,” the straightforward 12-year-old commented, perhaps not as helpfully as intended.
Despite her sharp words, North also provided some encouragement, surprising Kim with a bouquet of flowers.
Clearly understanding her mom well, Kim reacted with delight: “Oh, my gosh! Where did you get these?”
In a touching mother-daughter exchange, she added: “You know what? This made my day.”
Taking charge, North then instructed a nervous Kim, ‘you just have to go—that’s it,’ accompanied by a comforting hug.
Viewers witnessed this tough love moment in a flashback on the show, as Kim recounted to an off-screen producer: “Last night, North came in my room. She gave me the cutest little balloon that says, ‘Good Luck,’ and some flowers.”
She chose not to mention North’s remark about the criticism her outfits have received in the past.
Ultimately, North’s straightforward advice proved effective, and Kim confidently ascended the steps in her form-fitting haute couture cowboy outfit. The look required late-night adjustments by her stylists, who worked until 3 am making alterations, particularly to the black leather corset.
“We ended up cutting it up – the dress – in two pieces,” Kim shared with the cameras.
During the Met Gala, Kim mentioned to Vogue that North is a ‘big critiquer’ of her daring outfits, noting that her daughter is becoming ‘pretty good’ at delivering her critiques.
This feedback might be beneficial for Kim’s confidence, as in 2023, North remarked that Kim’s outfit resembled something from a ‘dollar store’ and likened it to a ‘Hawaiian girl with her dress all ripped.’
At that time, Kim commented to the cameras: “You can’t really take it seriously, getting roasted by a 10-year-old,” but admitted, ‘I never do, but it stings a little.’
