President Donald Trump has hinted at a potential rebranding for the Republican Party while alluding to the possibility of running for president again in 2028.
The US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment prohibits a president from serving more than two terms. Trump is currently serving his second term after first being elected in 2016.
Recently, Trump shared an image on Truth Social, seemingly generated by AI, depicting him with a sign that read: “TRUMP 2028, YES!”
Trump has previously entertained the notion of a third presidential run, despite constitutional limitations.
In October, on Air Force One, he remarked: “Based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run,” but left room for speculation by adding: “So we’ll see what happens.”
When asked by CNBC in August about his plans for another presidential campaign, Trump stated: “No, probably not, probably not. I’d like to… I have the best poll numbers I’ve ever had.”
He continued: “You know why. Because people love the tariffs, and they love the trade deals, and they love that countries – they love that foreign countries aren’t ripping us off.
“For years, they ripped us. A friend, and foe and a friend. And the friends were worse.”

Trump introduced a potential new moniker for Republicans, commenting alongside the AI image: “TRUMPLICANS!”
Earlier, Trump used similar terminology in another Truth Social post, stating: “There is a new word for a TRUMP REPUBLICAN, which is almost everyone (GREAT POLICY IS THE KEY!).
“It is, TEPUBLICAN??? Or, TPUBLICAN???”
During a conversation with MSNBC, Trump mentioned that despite interest, a third term seems unlikely due to legal constraints.
“I have never had requests so strong as that. But it’s something to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do,” he said.
“There are many people selling the 2028 hat, but this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to having four great years, and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.
“A great Republican to carry it forward. But I think we’re going to have four years, and four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular.”

Nonetheless, US Representative Andy Ogles has previously floated the idea of amending the law to permit three presidential terms instead of two.
Despite these discussions, Trump has identified his preferred successor.
He praised Vice President JD Vance during a CNBC interview, indicating his support.
“In all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said. “And he would be probably favoured at this point.”
