Achieving a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame is a significant milestone, second only to winning an Oscar.
Interestingly, the cost associated with being immortalized among the legendary names on the Walk of Fame is surprisingly steep.
Who would have thought that Hollywood would ask for a hefty sum for a prestigious public recognition? I’m just as surprised as you are.
Beyond financial considerations, there are strict guidelines on how an individual can apply for a star.
Stars are categorized into five different types: film, television, recording, radio, live performance, and sports entertainment, although exceptions exist like the one for astronaut Neil Armstrong.
So, what is the actual cost?

The initial application fee for a star is $275.
If the application is approved, the next step involves a sponsorship fee of $85,000 to cover the production, installation of the star, and maintenance of the walk.
This fee is typically covered by the sponsor rather than the nominee.
While many have secured a star on the Walk of Fame, it is not a prerequisite for Hollywood success.
Numerous celebrities have been nominated but have opted out of the honor.
For instance, both Prince and Bruce Springsteen were nominated but chose not to participate.
After a misunderstanding involving Springsteen, Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez changed the rules, requiring nominees to approve their nominations.

She explained to PEOPLE: “We announced it, and he did not want it. So I created what’s called the ‘Springsteen Clause’, which you now have to sign off on it. Because otherwise, it’s not fair to those who do want it.”
Anyone can put forward a celebrity’s name for a star, but the celebrity must consent to the nomination.
Moreover, a sponsor must be willing to cover the $85,000 expense.
The Walk of Fame stands as a huge draw for tourists in Hollywood, with more than 2,800 individuals already honored on the walk.
Each year, approximately 25 new ceremonies are held, attracting about 10 million visitors eager to find the stars of their favorite celebrities.
