Men have long been fascinated with their genitalia and comparing them with others. This is evident in art from various cultures, from ancient penis graffiti in Pompeii to a 44,000-year-old phallic pendant found in Mongolia.
Each man’s anatomy is unique; they can be long, short, thin, circumcised, or even have a distinct curve. Nevertheless, many men’s primary concern tends to focus on the overall size of their reproductive organ.
This obsession has been partly fueled by the heavy consumption of male pornography. Surveys indicate that about two-thirds of men in the US regularly engage with such content, which can skew their expectations of what a typical penis size should be.
Research indicates that the global average penis size falls between 5.1 and 5.5 inches. Yet, a study focusing on 1300 American men suggests that these averages might not align with findings from places like Alabama or West Virginia.

Bespoke Surgery conducted a self-reported volunteer study that found men in Alabama claim an impressive average length of 7.44 inches, while those in West Virginia reported 7-inch lengths.
Other states where men reported larger sizes include Louisiana (7.15 inches), Vermont (6.98 inches), and Utah (6.97 inches), with Oklahoma and Alaska not far behind. These regions have men claiming sizes nearly two inches greater than the average.
Conversely, Delaware emerged as the state with the smallest reported average size at 5.22 inches, closely followed by New Mexico with 5.36 inches.
In total, only eight states had average sizes below six inches, including Maryland (5.50 inches), Georgia (5.69 inches), Rhode Island (5.83 inches), Arkansas (5.90 inches), Indiana (5.94 inches), and Arizona (5.98 inches).
Nationally, the average size for an American man is 6.41 inches when fully erect, surpassing the global average of 5.1-5.5 inches by an inch.
It’s important to note that these figures are self-reported, suggesting that the data might be inflated due to men’s common tendency to exaggerate their attributes.
Interestingly, the study also identified states where men are most prone to exaggerating their size, with some even underestimating their true measurements. Unfortunately, the news isn’t great for men in Delaware.

In Louisiana, participants exaggerated the most, claiming sizes around eight inches—nearly an inch above their actual average.
Men in Delaware are reportedly stating an average of 6.52 inches, a noticeable increase from their actual 5.22-inch average.
Surprisingly, in 12 states, men reported sizes smaller than their actual length, with those in Rhode Island underestimating by 1.17 inches.
If you’re curious about your own measurements, Bespoke Surgery offers guidance on how to determine your size accurately. To measure, they advise:
“Position a ruler or measuring tape at the base of your erect penis, pressing down gently through your pubic hair or excess skin to touch the pubic bone underneath.
“Measure from the base of your penis to the end of its tip. Don’t pull or stretch your penis—hold it gently against the ruler if you need to.
“Repeat this two or three times over the course of a couple of days, and take the average to get your penis length. Blood flow, health, and other factors can affect the length of an erection.”
