A highly praised film starring James Ransone is now accessible to stream for free following the actor’s untimely passing.
Ransone passed away at the age of 46, with California authorities confirming his death by suicide on Friday, December 19.
Police were summoned to a residence in Fairfax, Los Angeles, around 2 pm after reports of an unresponsive individual.
Tributes have poured in for the actor, including from The Wire creator David Simon, who shared a photo of Ransone on his Bluesky profile.
Ransone portrayed Ziggy Sobotka in 12 episodes of the HBO crime series and later collaborated with the director again, alongside Alexander Skarsgård, in the war drama Generation Kill.
One of Ransone’s top-rated films, described by critics as ‘unlike anything else,’ is now available to stream for free.

This indie comedy-drama is set on Christmas Eve in Hollywood and follows two transgender sex workers navigating betrayal, friendship, and life in Los Angeles.
The storyline centers on Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez), who, after being released from a short jail term, reunites with her friend Alexandra (Mya Taylor) and discovers her boyfriend Chester (Ransone) has been unfaithful with a cisgender woman during her incarceration.
Driven by anger, Sin-Dee sets off on a frantic search across the city to confront Chester and the woman, dragging Alexandra along on the adventure.
Notably, the film is shot entirely on iPhone 5s, a choice by director Sean Baker to encourage creative innovation and minimize production expenses.
The film is Tangerine, which boasts a 96 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics.

Matthew Turner from WOW247 describes it as an ‘expertly made indie that’s unlike anything else you’ve seen.’
He also noted: “By turns exhilarating, moving and laugh-out-loud funny, [Tangerine] is thoroughly entertaining.”
James Marsh from South China Morning Post strongly declared it ‘the best LA Christmas movie since Die Hard, defining it as ‘absolutely essential viewing,’ while Jason Best from Movie Talk commented that Tangerine is ‘buzzing with life, energy and salty wit.’
The film can be streamed for free on two US platforms.
According to JustWatch, Tangerine is available on Fubo, which provides a seven-day free trial. Afterward, the service costs $32 monthly.
It is also accessible on Hulu, offering a free 30-day trial, with a subsequent monthly subscription fee of $11.99.
A selection of Ransone’s films and TV shows can be streamed with various subscriptions.
All five seasons of The Wire are available on Prime Video with the HBO Max add-on.
It: Chapter Two is offered with the same subscription.
While Sinister and Sinister 2 aren’t available for streaming, they can be rented for $3.99 on both Apple TV and Prime Video.
