Jennifer Lawrence shares why collaborating with an A-list star was ‘really, really hard’

Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about some of her film experiences and one particularly challenging collaboration with an A-list actor, though not for the reasons you might assume.

Lawrence has an extensive and diverse filmography, showcasing her versatility as an actress and avoiding being pigeonholed into specific roles.

Throughout her career, she has worked with a wide range of actors, each bringing their unique style and talent to the projects.

While discussing the quirky dark comedy Don’t Look Up, Lawrence revealed which actor she found particularly challenging to work with.

If you need a refresher, or if you haven’t had a chance to watch this unexpected hit, the Netflix film was released in 2021. It tells the story of two astronomers who discover a comet on a collision course with Earth, threatening all life. Despite the impending disaster, those in power fail to take the threat seriously, leading to a satirical comedy starring Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and Timothée Chalamet.

However, none of these actors were the source of the filming challenges. According to Lawrence, it was actually Jonah Hill who made the process difficult.

In the film, Lawrence portrays astronomer Kate Dibiasky, and she explained that Hill’s character, Jason Orlean, proved to be ‘the worst,’ making it a struggle to avoid breaking character and ruining takes.

In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence detailed how Hill’s character serves not only as the president’s son but also as ‘the Chief-of-Staff.’

Lawrence shared: “It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing. We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me.

“It was amazing.”

Many of Hill’s lines were improvised, and Lawrence expressed her belief that only Hill and Meryl Streep should engage in such improv, although other cast members participated as well.

“I mean, he’s [Hill’s] a master, he’s a comedic master. I mean we all did some [improv] just not as well as Jonah,” Lawrence added.

Recently, Lawrence expressed her admiration for a co-star she thoroughly enjoyed working with.

In an interview with V Magazine, Lawrence praised Robert Pattinson, who co-starred with her in the 2025 film Die My Love.

Discussing Pattinson, who plays her husband in the movie, she remarked: “Rob brought so much more dimension to the film as a whole.

“He really held firm with this kind of backbone for his character which gave me so much more to push back against.

“I’ve never worked with an actor who was really in such a similar place as me in our lives, being new parents, which was so lovely and also built up natural trust.

“Rob is sensationally smart and really sweet. So it was fun. I enjoyed working with Rob immensely.”
