The captain of a super yacht that frequently hosts the wealthy elite revealed the celebrity he most enjoyed meeting.
This unnamed skipper shared stories on Reddit about some of the high-profile individuals encountered over a decade of sailing.
Posting on the ‘AMA’ Reddit forum, he wrote: “For the last 10 years, I’ve worked all the way from deck to bridge, and have worked for the biggest names in movie, art, finance, politics and technology, each of these experiences had their very good and their very bad.”
Curious social media users flooded the comments, posing various questions, which prompted the captain to recall a particularly unusual request made by one group of guests.
Despite their wealth, these guests were not always interested in gourmet cuisine.
“We onboarded charter guests from the Bahamas with the most wonderful galley full of extravagant food and they literally wanted nuggets and chips and burgers for 10 days and nothing else… we were in a bit of trouble there,” he recounted.
The Reddit user also mentioned his most favorable celebrity encounter, attributing it to Tom Hanks and his family.
“The Hanks family. I love those guys,” he stated, adding: “Mr Hanks has one of the strongest moral compasses I’ve ever seen and I have nothing but praise for that man and his family.”
Reddit users were pleased to learn that the Toy Story star was a joy to work with. One commented: “I love hearing this because I love Tom Hanks and would absolutely be devastated to learn that he was a terrible person without the cameras.”
Another user added: “This makes me so happy… even in his acting, you can see his kind soul.”
The specific yacht where this skipper works wasn’t disclosed, but Hanks has previously sailed with Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen, and Michelle and Barack Obama near Tahiti.
Although the excursion was supposed to be private, it eventually made headlines.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2017, Hanks mentioned: “That made the news, it was really interesting. Both Oprah and I were really p***** off. Look, imagine what it could’ve been like it, triple it. It was off the scale, fantastic.”
During the trip, Hanks rented bikes with the Obamas to explore ashore, but things went awry when he ended up with “an undersized, girl’s bike.”
“It was rusted like all over, it only had one gear … all the others were like mountain bikes … it was so bad,” he recounted.
