Testing the Buzz: I Tried the Anti-Hangover Pill Everyone’s Talking About

Hangovers have always been my arch-nemesis.

Many individuals claim that hangovers deteriorate with age, but ever since my initial drinking experiences, my hangovers have been notoriously terrible.

For a long time, I have dreaded the morning after and avoided making plans whenever possible, anticipating a day spent languishing in bed with a fierce headache and overwhelming tiredness.

Typical hangover symptoms include dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, and a rapid heartbeat, according to the Mayo Clinic. Despite these discomforts, people (myself included) still indulge in drinking more than they probably should.

There have been longstanding myths about hangover ‘remedies,’ such as the ‘hair of the dog.’ However, this is not an effective solution as it merely delays the symptoms, according to Dr. Donald Grant, GP and Senior Clinical Advisor at The Independent Pharmacy.

He explained: “While it may momentarily mask symptoms by increasing blood alcohol levels, it quickly wears off, often resulting in a second wave of symptoms that can be more severe than the original hangover. While it’s an incredibly well-known phrase, there’s simply no evidence to back this claim.”

If ‘hair of the dog’ is ineffective, then what does work? I’ve often pondered this and decided to try the trending anti-hangover pill Myrkl.

Myrkl has gained significant attention on TikTok, with many reviews praising the supplements as a ‘real game-changer.’

Myrkl describes itself as a ‘socializing supplement,’ aiming to enhance metabolic function using prebiotics, probiotics, L Cysteine, and Vitamin B12 to support liver health.

Myrkl Supplement

Essentially, Myrkl’s formula enhances alcohol-targeting probiotics in your gut, speeding up the breakdown process and reducing the workload on your liver. Vitamin B12 is particularly beneficial for combating fatigue and bolstering the body’s immune response to alcohol.

Given the buzz and my aversion to hangovers, I decided to give Myrkl a shot.

The perfect opportunity arose during my Christmas work party. A couple of hours before the event, I took the supplements with a glass of water and some pizza (as it’s recommended to consume them with a meal).

As the party progressed and I consumed several glasses of Prosecco and a few Disaronno and cokes, I was feeling quite merry.

I had no plans for the following day, assuming I’d be bedridden with a terrible hangover. Surprisingly, no such hangover arrived.

Expecting the usual headache and nausea, I cautiously got out of bed to feed my impatient cat. To my amazement, I felt considerably better than usual.

No, I wasn’t ready for a marathon, and yes, I did take a nap on the sofa that afternoon.

While not feeling completely 100 percent, I felt significantly better than I typically would. With these results, I’ll definitely be trying Myrkl again.
