Google unveils top search trends of 2025

Google has unveiled the topics that captured the curiosity of Americans in 2025, and the findings are quite somber.

In its annual ‘Year in Search’ summary, released on December 28, the tech giant highlighted the subjects, individuals, and trends that took over US search inquiries over the past year.

Sadly, the most searched term was conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who gained significant attention following his assassination in September.

Following Kirk was KPop Demon Hunters, a highly popular animated film on Netflix, centered around a Korean girl group fighting evil forces in secret.

Ranking third was the children’s craze surrounding the Labubus toy.

The Labubu dolls, known for their sinister appearance, have been highly sought after by fans, with some even being sold for thousands of dollars.

These toys are the brainchild of Chinese company POP MART, which collaborated with Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung in 2019 to create the Labubus. They are inspired by Lung’s book series The Monsters, depicting a tribe of female elves.

The popularity of these toys has spurred a bizarre conspiracy theory suggesting they are cursed and possessed by a demon.

The top five list also included Apple’s iPhone 17 and President Donald Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ legislation.

During a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier this summer, Trump remarked on this achievement: “There can be no better birthday for America than the phenomenal victory we achieved just hours ago when Congress passed the big, beautiful bill to make America great again.”

The budget overhaul, nearly 1,000 pages long, is set to increase the national debt by approximately $3.4 trillion over the next ten years, adding to the current $36.2 trillion debt.

This legislation includes tax breaks Trump promised during his 2024 presidential campaign, while simultaneously reducing spending on health and food safety programs.

The demise of celebrities was another significant search interest, with Kirk leading the list, followed by the deaths of Gene Hackman, Ozzy Osbourne, Anne Burrell, and Val Kilmer.

Music searches were dominated by Taylor Swift, who appeared multiple times in the top 10, along with Bad Bunny. In television, The Hunting Wives took the top spot, with The White Lotus following closely behind.
