Jake Paul expressed his concern and support for Anthony Joshua after the heavyweight boxer was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria that resulted in two fatalities.
Joshua sustained minor injuries in the accident, which happened earlier on Monday (December 29). He is reportedly in good condition after receiving medical attention at a hospital.
The Ogun State government identified the two deceased individuals as ‘male foreign nationals’ involved in the crash.
A family member of Joshua’s, who preferred to remain anonymous, spoke to the BBC, describing the incident as ‘shocking’. They said, “We are hoping for his speedy recovery and also the people who passed away – I pray for the departed to rest in peace.”
Joshua, who has often expressed pride in his Nigerian heritage, was in the country to celebrate the New Year following his recent bout with Jake Paul earlier in the month.

In the heavyweight match, Joshua emerged victorious over Paul, subsequently challenging Tyson Fury.
During the Netflix-streamed fight, Joshua delivered a knockout in the sixth round, breaking Paul’s jaw.
Despite the decisive victory, Joshua shared an impressive £137 million with Paul following their Miami encounter.
After the accident, Paul posted a heartfelt message on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident,” the influencer shared.
Social media footage of the incident showed bystanders aiding a bewildered Joshua from the wreckage. The Telegraph reported that a witness described the crash, which involved a car colliding with a stationary truck around 11 am local time on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Makun, a road known for its danger in Nigeria.
Joshua was a passenger in the vehicle, which had five occupants.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria suggested that the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit and lost control during an overtaking attempt.
The FRSC statement read, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a Lexus Jeep conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck.”
Representatives for Joshua have been contacted for further comments.
