Stefon Diggs of the New England Patriots has been charged with federal offenses.
The 32-year-old NFL star, who is romantically involved with musician Cardi Bi, is facing charges of felony strangulation or suffocation as well as misdemeanor assault and battery.
These charges were officially submitted in Dedham District Court, Massachusetts, on December 30, according to reports from The Independent.
The Patriots responded to the allegations with a statement, indicating that Diggs “categorically denies the allegations.”
In a statement shared by ESPN, the club said: “The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon.
“We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
