Stephen King enthusiasts have a limited time to catch a sequel praised as ‘perfect’ before it exits Netflix.
We’re in that peculiar stretch between Christmas and New Year, where many feel disoriented and lose track of days.
This is the ideal moment to indulge in your favorite movies and TV series while working through leftover holiday treats, before committing to fresh New Year’s resolutions.
But let’s focus on the present.
If you enjoy Stephen King’s works, you should quickly give attention to this film, rated at 89 percent, as its departure from the US platform is imminent.
This sequel, directed by Mike Flanagan, is rooted in one of the author’s most acclaimed adaptations.

Released in 2019, the film revisits Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor), now grown, years after the terrifying events at the Overlook Hotel.
Haunted and battling alcoholism, Danny finds solace working at a hospice, using his psychic talents to comfort patients nearing death, garnering the title Doctor Sleep – also the film’s name.
His tranquility is disrupted when he telepathically connects with Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran), a young girl with extraordinary ‘shining’ abilities.
Abra is pursued by the True Knot, a group led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), who consume psychic energy for eternal life.
Danny confronts his past and harnesses his powers to defend Abra, leading to a climactic showdown linked to his original trauma.
Doctor Sleep is the follow-up to 1980’s The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick.
The film will be removed from Netflix US on January 1.
The Shining featured Jack Nicholson as Torrance, a writer taking a caretaker job at the secluded Overlook Hotel, where supernatural forces push him toward insanity, threatening his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and son, Danny (Danny Lloyd).
Doctor Sleep received a respectable score on Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers calling it ‘perfect’.
“A perfect film and story. Rare to have such a unique and excellent sequel,” one fan remarked.
“The impossible task has been pulled off,” another noted. “Well done Mike Flanagan. You inherit the keys to King’s kingdom in my opinion.”
“One of my favorite Steven King movies!” another fan expressed, while someone else added: “I dare to say [it’s] one of the best sequels ever made. I love everything about this movie!”
Doctor Sleep is available for streaming on Netflix US until Thursday (January 1).
