William H. Macy has faced backlash on social media after sharing his insights on maintaining a successful marriage with his wife, Felicity Huffman.
The actor has been married to Felicity Huffman for nearly three decades, tying the knot in 1997 and raising two children together.
Macy was in high spirits while discussing the factors that have contributed to their enduring marriage.
While speaking with US Weekly on the red carpet of the Critics Choice Award on January 4, Macy’s remarks were soon mocked on social platforms.
Looking back on their relationship, the 75-year-old noted: “There’s no secrets. First of all, she’s a fabulous human being, so if you want a good marriage, marry her. But I already did.
“Our relationship is founded in show biz. We met in the theater. We talk about acting all the time. We love acting. She’s a magnificent actor. We talk about our roles together.
“We’ve been lucky and we raised our kids here in Los Angeles, and we kept them out of the business, although my oldest, Sophia Macy, is an actor. We tried to have a normal family, and it was pretty normal.”

However, users on Reddit were quick to highlight a major controversy the couple faced, countering Macy’s statement.
In 2019, Huffman was implicated in a scandal for paying $15,000 to manipulate her daughter’s SAT scores, disguised as a charitable donation.
This incident, referred to as the Varsity Blues Scandal, led to Huffman’s arrest by FBI and IRS agents on March 12, 2019.
She eventually pled guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, resulting in a 14-day jail sentence, one year of supervised release, 250 hours of community service, and a $30,000 fine.
There were questions at the time about Macy’s lack of charges, but it was concluded that Huffman was significantly more involved.
Despite Macy’s positive remarks, social media users were quick to mention the scandal and compare it against his ‘no secrets’ claim.

One Redditor remarked: “Except when one of you gets in legal trouble for bribing admissions offices, then it’s important that you both understand that one of you acting in complete secrecy from the other.”
Another added: “Well, it also helps when she takes the fall for the secrets too (see school scandal).”
Another user commented: “Also, when they need a little break from each other, she goes to jail. Like a mini-vacation.”
One frustrated user chimed in: “Conspiring to screw over other people’s kids in order to give yours a headstart really draws people together. Couple of selfish a**holes actually.”
William H. Macy’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
