Fans of The Simpsons have been both saddened and frustrated upon hearing that a beloved character might be leaving the show for good.
The long-running series, The Simpsons, which first aired in 1989, has faced some challenges over its extensive run, including the departure of characters due to various reasons such as actors passing away or storyline decisions. In the latest episode of the 37th season, a character who made his debut in 1997 appears to have been written out.
The episode titled Seperance is a parody of the popular show Severance, and it provides an in-universe explanation for the absence of one specific character.
Contrary to many character exits, this one doesn’t involve a death.

The character in question is the well-known Duffman, a figure who, while not a central character, has been a memorable presence as the lively spokesperson for Duff Beer, known for speaking in the third person and his catchphrase, ‘Oh yeah!’
In this episode, Barry Duffman, the man behind the mascot, informs the Simpsons that the company has decided to retire the character.
He explains, “The Duff Corporation has retired that character forever.
“All the old forms of advertising are now passé. Corporate spokesmen, print ads, TV spots. Today’s kids can’t even sing the jingles.”

As the episode wraps up, Barry, after attempting to get Homer to join a corporation known as EOD and then freeing himself from his corporate persona, remains in civilian attire. This has led to speculation that Duffman may indeed be gone for good.
While Barry might still make background appearances, the iconic Duffman entrance seems unlikely to occur in upcoming episodes.
Fans have taken to social media to express their feelings about Duffman’s departure.
One fan wrote: “Duffman can finally rest his hips after thirty years of aggressive thrusting he definitely earned a peaceful retirement.”
Another fan expressed their respect: “Mad respect! Rest Well DUFFMAN! OHHH YEAHHH!”
A third added: “30 years of carrying beer culture on his back… let that man rest.”
Despite this, some viewers remain hopeful for a return, with one commenting: “They’ve retired duffman twice in the Simpsons. He will most definitely be back.”
