Bam Margera’s unexpected involvement in the new Jackass film has surprised many, given the circumstances of his previous departure from the series.
Earlier this week, Johnny Knoxville announced on Instagram that a new Jackass movie is on the horizon, slated for release later this year.
He wrote: “Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang. We wanted to let you know that this summer Jackass is back!! We will see you in theatres June 26th. More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first!!”
Fans were taken aback to learn that Bam Margera would be part of this new venture. This news was unexpected, considering Margera’s exclusion from Jackass Forever due to alleged breaches of a ‘wellness agreement’. This incident escalated to a lawsuit, which was eventually settled out of court.
Following these events, many assumed the involved parties would part ways, making Margera’s return to the upcoming Jackass film quite surprising.
However, his involvement will differ from what fans may anticipate. According to reports from Variety, Margera will be featured through previously unseen archival footage.
The publication reports that Margera will not be performing new stunts for the fifth Jackass film, although this could potentially change.
Margera has been dealing with significant health challenges, including several stints in rehab due to substance abuse issues.
The documentary The Curious Case of… Bam Margera explored the numerous challenges he faced, particularly his battles with addiction.
In this documentary, Steve-O, a fellow Jackass cast member, expressed his concerns about Margera.
Steve-O reflected on how challenging it has been to witness Margera’s struggles, noting that when they first met, Margera had no interest in substance abuse.
“People love a comeback story so much, but is that point going to come or is he going to be dead first? I don’t know,” Steve-O remarked.
In a past appearance on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast, Margera recounted a harrowing experience on December 8, 2022, when he was ‘basically pronounced dead’.
He described suffering from severe Covid and enduring ‘four seizures’, during which he nearly bit his tongue off and needed life support.
Fortunately, after several days in the hospital, Margera recovered fully.
