JD Vance asserts that President Trump is very serious about his intention to purchase Greenland.
During World War II, when Germany took control of Denmark, the United States occupied Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory. Even after the war, the US showed interest in maintaining a presence in Greenland, making a proposal to buy it in 1947.
Now, decades later, President Trump is expressing a renewed desire for American involvement in Greenland. However, Greenland is firmly resistant to such a change in sovereignty.
The president’s approach to acquiring the territory is said to be peaceful, but there have been indications of military pressure from his administration.
Greenland’s leadership has responded to these overtures, with the country’s premier, Jens Frederik Nielsen, stating: “Threats, pressure, and talk of annexation do not belong anywhere between friends.”
“That’s not how you talk to a people who have repeatedly shown responsibility, stability, and loyalty. This is enough.”

Residents of Greenland are also showing resistance to Trump’s aspirations, emphasizing that their land is not a commodity for purchase.
Reports suggest that Mark Rubio plans to engage with Greenland’s leaders soon, while Vice President JD Vance encourages European leaders to take President Trump’s intentions seriously.
“My advice to European leaders and anybody else would be to take the president of the United States seriously,” Vance remarked during a White House briefing on January 8.
Vance also addressed the media’s reaction: “What has he said about Greenland? Set to the side the crazy overreactions that I’ve seen from the press and from certain people in Europe.”
“Number one: Greenland is really important, not just to America’s missile defence but to the world’s missile defence.”
“Number two: We know that there are hostile adversaries that have shown a lot of interest in that particular territory… So what we’re asking our European friends to do is to take the security of that landmass more seriously, because if they’re not, the United States is going to have to do something about it.”

“What that is, I’ll leave that to the president as we continue to engage in diplomacy with our European friends.”
The public has expressed concern about Vance’s statements, with some viewing him as potentially more dangerous than President Trump.
One person expressed their exhaustion: “EVERY DAMN DAY is like a recurring nightmare with these people. It’s exhausting….”
Another individual interpreted Vance’s comments as a signal for Europe to prepare for possible conflict, amid growing fears of World War 3.
