Protests erupted across Iran once more on Saturday night as thousands of people flooded the streets, demanding an end to the nation’s authoritarian and theocratic regime.
Over the past two weeks, these demonstrations have led to the arrest of thousands, with activists reporting a minimum of 116 deaths due to a harsh crackdown by state police, which included shutting down internet access throughout the country.
After last year’s 12-day missile exchange between Israel and Iran, Iranian leaders have issued a stern warning to the US and its significant regional ally. This move is intended to deter any intervention in favor of the protesters.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, cautioned that US military personnel could become ‘legitimate targets’ for retaliation if America involves itself in the turmoil spreading across Iran, as President Trump had suggested.

This threat against the US and its allies was issued on Saturday as the unrest reached its 14th day. In response to Trump’s social media post proclaiming, “Iran is looking at FREEDOM, perhaps like never before,” tensions heightened.
He added that ‘the USA stands ready to help,’ though it remains uncertain how much information from external sources is reaching Iranians due to the communication blackout.
Speaker Qalibaf further stated that Israel would also face consequences if the West sided with the protesters. This statement was followed by Iranian politicians chanting ‘Death to America!!’ in parliament.
Both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have reported, citing White House sources, that Trump is exploring military strategies to aid the protesters.
This notion is supported by assertive statements from various executive branches, with the State Department warning: “Do not play games with President Trump. When he says he’ll do something, he means it.”
More updates to come.
