Greg Biffle’s residence burglarized shortly after NASCAR icon perished with family in plane crash

The residence of the late NASCAR icon Greg Biffle has fallen victim to a burglary just weeks after the tragic plane crash that claimed his and his family’s lives, authorities have revealed.

According to a police report, burglars took $30,000 in cash and a $30 backpack from the residence he shared with his wife, Cristina Grossu Biffle, and their two children.

The authorities became aware of the break-in on Thursday, January 8, when Cristina’s mother, Cathy Grossu, reported the incident.

Officers from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the Biffle residence on Doolie Road in Mooresville, N.C, around 6:23pm to conduct an investigation.

Additionally, two firearms and NASCAR memorabilia were noted as potentially missing. The sheriff’s office is collaborating with local race teams to locate the missing items and confirm if they were indeed stolen.

“Currently, no arrest has been made,” a spokesperson for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office stated. “Investigators are continuing to review all evidence, including digital and other available information, as the case remains under investigation.”

This unfortunate break-in occurred less than a month after the fatal plane crash on December 18, which took the lives of Biffle, his wife Cristina, their son Ryder, and daughter Emma.

The family died alongside three others after their plane crashed shortly after takeoff.

The Cessna C550 was en route to Sarasota, Florida, departing from Statesville Regional Airport, about an hour from Charlotte, North Carolina, as per FlightAware data.

However, during the flight, the aircraft attempted to return and land.

The crash occurred around 10:15am, resulting in the plane immediately catching fire.

The Statesville Regional Airport issued a statement confirming the incident: “We can confirm there has been an aircraft incident at the Statesville Regional Airport. At approximately 10:15 a.m., an aircraft crashed while landing. The Federal Aviation Administration is en route and will investigate the incident.”

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently conducting an investigation into the crash.

Before his untimely death, Biffle was a former NASCAR star celebrated as one of the sport’s top 75 drivers for his remarkable performance on the race track.

He achieved championships in two national series and became a long-time Cup contender.

Biffle competed full-time in the Cup Series from 2002 to 2016, securing 19 victories in 515 starts. He finished in the top 10 in the standings six times, including a second-place points finish in 2005.

Beyond his career as a driver, Biffle was admired for his generosity and had previously worked as a humanitarian/rescue pilot, conducting Hurricane Helene relief missions in western North Carolina.
