Jameis Winston, an experienced NFL player, has shared the reasoning behind his decision to acquire a second home as part of his commitment to celibacy.
Though now 32 and with the New York Giants, Winston hopes to replicate the remarkable performance levels he once achieved with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During his peak playing period, Winston adhered to celibacy as a method to maintain personal responsibility off the field.
The quarterback recently joined Travis Kelce on the New Heights podcast to explain how purchasing a second residence supported his decision to abstain from sexual activities during a crucial NFL season in his career.
He revealed to Travis and Jason Kelce that he was experiencing ‘one of the most up-and-down years off the field’ after his partner proposed to him while he was committed to ‘this freaking celibacy thing.’

At the time, Winston was living with his then-fiancée, Breion, and their son. He recalled conversations with his parents regarding ‘shacking,’ a colloquial term for couples cohabiting before marriage.
“I was like, ‘We have to eliminate that’,” Winston explained on the podcast. “So I literally bought a property and stayed away from my house.”
Winston also shared that his father was facing challenges, which prevented him from attending his son’s football games.
“It was the first year in my life that my dad wasn’t coming to any of my football games,” he recounted to the Kelce brothers.
“My uncle had passed, he was going through some things with COVID and my grandmother passed a year before. So my dad was dealing with some things, man.”

He continued: “So, just spiritually, the family, we just were going through it. And I was having a great game or I was having a not so great game. And it was coinciding with what was happening off the field.”
During the podcast, Winston also discussed the guidance he offers to younger players as he approaches the latter stages of his career.
“That’s why when I talked to these young athletes, I asked them, ‘What are you consistently doing outside of the building too?’ Because if you are consistently being up and down outside of the building it’s gonna come on the field,” he said.
Winston’s insights will likely prove valuable to younger teammates as they face the challenges presented by a career in the NFL.
