Leonardo DiCaprio attracted significant attention at the Golden Globes for a sassy moment that was captured on camera, and the identity of the person he was speaking to has now been revealed.
The renowned actor was nominated for best actor in a musical or comedy for his role in One Battle After Another. However, he did not win, as the award went to Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme.
Despite not winning, a viral clip from the event showed the 51-year-old actor having a great time in Los Angeles.
In this clip, DiCaprio can be seen saying: “I was watching you with the K-pop thing.” He then playfully adds, while flicking his hair: “You were like, ‘Who’s that? Is it… Oh, K-pop!”
The moment was so memorable that one commenter noted it had ‘created a hundred memes in 30 seconds’. However, the question remained: who was DiCaprio addressing?
Initially, Deadline speculated that he might have been speaking to his One Battle co-star and on-screen daughter Chase Infiniti, known to be a fan of K-pop.
However, it has been confirmed that DiCaprio was actually talking to Teyana Taylor, a fellow One Battle alum, in the viral video.
Taylor confirmed to Access Hollywood: “He’s talking to me, yes. I think we were discussing KPop Demon Hunters, as I was thrilled when they won because my kids are big fans of KPop Demon Hunters.”
She added: “I was just over there enjoying myself, and I think he noticed that, which sparked our conversation. I honestly don’t remember exactly what he was saying. I was probably just laughing along and didn’t catch all of it.”
Reflecting on the ceremony, Taylor said: “I do recall enthusiastically enjoying ‘Golden’ by KPop Demon Hunters when it played. We had a conversation about how much my kids Junie and Rue love KPop Demon Hunters, but I didn’t realize the moment was being filmed.”
Darren Stanton, in a statement for Covers, offered insights into DiCaprio’s playful conduct at the Golden Globes.
“The viral clip with Leo is quite revealing. While he’s known for his sense of humor, in this instance, he seems to be mimicking someone or trying to entertain others with exaggerated antics,” he commented.
“Typically, we see Leo as serious and professional, so this is a different side of him.
“The clip demonstrates that he’s at ease, open to joking around, and not taking himself too seriously, even with the camera rolling.”
