If you’ve recently purchased cooked chicken, it’s important to verify whether it is included in a significant recall involving nearly seven tons of ready-to-eat grilled chicken breast fillets across several locations.
The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes is a serious concern, as it can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset.
This bacterium can be found in certain food items, like meats and dairy products, and can be transmitted to humans upon consumption, resulting in listeriosis.
According to the Mayo Clinic, if the infection spreads to the spinal cord, it may cause chills, flu-like symptoms, and even seizures.
In severe cases, it can be life-threatening.
Listeria thrives in unsanitary conditions and poses a particular risk to pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
While outbreaks are uncommon due to food safety regulations and proper handling techniques, a third-party laboratory has identified that 13,720 pounds of chicken in seven states may be contaminated with the bacteria.

The recall involves products from Georgia-based food company Suzanna’s Kitchen, which have been distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Ohio, as stated by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The FSIS announced on Friday (January 16) that the recall concerns 10-pound cases produced on October 14, 2025.
The affected items are 5-pound bags of fully cooked grilled chicken breast fillets with rib meat, marked with the Lot Code 60104 P1382 287 5 J14 and Establishment Number P-1382.
Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with these findings. The main impact is on food service operators in the seven affected states, rather than retail customers.
Operators are advised to check their inventories to ensure they do not possess any affected cases.
However, the FSIS encourages anyone who suspects they have consumed the chicken to seek medical attention.

The alert specifies: “The products subject to recall bear establishment number P-1382 inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution centers for foodservice sales in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Ohio.”
“The issue was identified when a third-party laboratory sample showed a positive Listeria monocytogenes result in the ready-to-eat fully cooked grilled chicken breast fillets product.”
“There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.”
The company Suzanna’s Kitchen has been contacted for a comment.
