Landman co-creator discusses Billy Bob Thornton’s full-frontal scene, clarifying prosthetic use

Landman co-creator Christian Wallace has shared some amusing insights about Billy Bob Thornton’s ‘full-frontal’ scene.

Kicking off a new episode of a popular TV series with some nudity is certainly a bold move. And when it comes to nudity, why hold back? Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, in Paramount+’s Landman, doesn’t just show a little skin; instead, he goes for a full-frontal reveal.

The scene, which premiered on Paramount+ on December 28, begins with Norris waking up in a hotel room. After a hotel worker delivers breakfast, Tommy lets out a small fart, rolls over, and gives viewers quite a surprise with an explicit view.

This moment sparked quite the conversation online. Some viewers expressed reactions similar to Ali Larter’s character, Angela. One user went on X (formerly Twitter) to question, “I don’t understand why the producer felt the need to show Thornton’s member. Like you can’t insinuate without showing it?”

This raises the question: was it actually Thornton’s anatomy on display, or did he use prosthetics for the scene? Moreover, is this the memory viewers are left with, especially with rumors of Thornton potentially leaving the show?

To quell any concerns, Christian Wallace, who co-created Landman with Taylor Sheridan, clarified to The Hollywood Reporter that what viewers saw was not an actual full-frontal shot.

Wallace explained that the penis shown was a prosthetic.

He humorously shared that the initial prosthetic brought to set by the intimacy coordinator was so amusing it prompted laughter, necessitating a search for a “more humble alternative.”

Given the reactions online, one can only imagine the original version.

Wallace added, “But it is surprising to me that people think that was actually Billy doing full-frontal nudity.”

“So I should say props to our intimacy coordinator for making it extremely realistic, and to the props team. They had a whole rig, as Billy called it: ‘Got my rig on’.”

Wallace described the entire situation as creating “a hilarious day on set.”

As for Thornton’s future on Landman, could the rumors be true about his potential departure?

Speculation began when Tommy was dismissed as president of M-Tex by Cami (played by Demi Moore) at the end of season two, leading to whispers about Thornton’s exit from the series.

However, in an interview with USA Today, Thornton dismissed these rumors as “AI generated c**p” and unrelated to reality.

Landman fans can breathe a sigh of relief for now, though they might want to brace themselves for another possible appearance of the prosthetic in season three.
