David Beckham’s ex-teammate claims he is ‘obsessive’ in explosive post amid family rift

A former teammate of David Beckham has shared his perspective on the retired soccer star following Brooklyn Beckham’s revealing post about his parents.

Brooklyn, the oldest child of Victoria and David, recently criticized his famous parents, declaring that he has no intentions of reconciling with his family. He mentioned staying ‘silent for years’ and trying to keep the family issues ‘private’.

He further expressed that in his family, ‘Brand Beckham comes first’ and alleged that he had ‘been controlled by my parents for most of my life’.

John O’Kane, who briefly played alongside Beckham for Manchester United in the 1990s and claims to have lived with him, took to social media to discuss the former soccer player.

“I lived with Beckham for a few years.. Let’s just say he likes to be in TOTAL CONTROL and was OBSESSIVE on PERFECTION,” he wrote on X.

“If it took Brooklyn to say this and burn down the so-called perfect family. Brand Beckham should not come before your kids no matter what has happened.”

O’Kane noted that his initial comment ‘seems to have popped off’ and mentioned that he thought ‘Becks controlling/OCD obsessiveness made him the footballer he was’.

“But whatever has happened with his son, he felt he had to say something. And I STILL believe you do not disown your own children no matter what!” he added. “But that’s just me.”

Beckham has previously spoken about the challenges of living with OCD, a mental health condition characterized by compulsive behaviors and intrusive thoughts.

“The fact that when everyone’s in bed I then go around, clean the candles, turn the lights on to the right setting, make sure everywhere is tidy. I hate coming down in the morning and there’s cups and plates and, you know, bowls,” the former sports star mentioned in his Netflix documentary, Beckham.

“I clip the candle wax, I clean the glass, that’s my pet hate, the smoke around the inside of a candle. I know, it’s weird.”

Back in 2006, Beckham discussed his condition and the difficulty he faces in resisting certain compulsions.

He said: “I’ve got this obsessive compulsive disorder where I have to have everything in a straight line or everything has to be in pairs. I’ll put my Pepsi cans in the fridge and if there’s one too many then I’ll put it in another cupboard somewhere … everything has to be perfect.”
