Taylor Swift and Blake Lively address friendship issues through unexpected text exchanges

Recently uncovered text exchanges between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively have provided a glimpse into their rocky friendship.

This year has been tumultuous for Blake Lively due to her ongoing legal issues with Justin Baldoni, which have been unfolding for over a year.

Back in December 2024, Lively took legal action against her It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and participating in a ‘smear campaign’ against her.

In the ensuing month, Lively escalated the situation with an additional lawsuit, alleging harassment and retaliation, claiming Baldoni’s inappropriate behavior occurred on set.

Baldoni responded with a countersuit, accusing Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and the New York Times of defamation and extortion regarding the allegations.

Nevertheless, this countersuit was dismissed in June and ultimately thrown out in October of the same year.

Now, unsealed legal documents reveal Taylor Swift’s text messages with Lively preceding the release of the New York Times article.

A multitude of emails, texts, and depositions have been disclosed, including a conversation where Swift and Lively discuss their tense friendship and potential ways to mend it.

While Swift’s last name is redacted in the texts, Lively’s legal team confirmed her identity as the singer in court filings.

The exchange, which occurred as Swift was preparing for her final Eras Tour show, began with Lively reaching out to Swift.

Lively wrote: “Hey, just checking in. I have no reason to ask, but I dunno, I’ve been feeling like I should… is everything okay?

“I felt like a bad friend lately because I was such a sad sack who only talked about my own s*** for months.”

Lively continued: “I always want the opportunity to be a better friend if there’s something I unintentionally did.

“I know how busy and taxed you are, so I don’t expect any more from you ever. Just want to make sure all is good.”

Swift acknowledged that Lively was justified in feeling there was a disconnect between them.

Swift replied: “No, you’re not wrong, but it’s also not a big deal. I think I’m just exhausted in every avenue of my life and in recent months had been feeling a little bit of a shift in the way you talk to me.”

She added that recent interactions felt impersonal, as if she were “reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees.”

Swift concluded: “You don’t need to apologize. Just come back please.”
