Natasha Lyonne has been open about her struggles in rehab and her fight against drug and alcohol addiction.
While some celebrities manage to hide their struggles with addiction from the public, there are others, like actress Natasha Lyonne, who choose to share their experiences openly. Despite gaining fame in the 90s, Lyonne has remained transparent about her journey.
Recently, she revealed on social media that she had experienced a relapse, although she did not elaborate on the details.
On January 23, she wrote on X: “Took my relapse public, more to come.”
Her fans responded with words of support and shared their own battles with addiction.
Lyonne replied with her own message of support.
She continued: “If no one told ya today, I love you. No matter how far down the scales we have gone, we will see how our experience may help another.
“Keep going, kiddos. Don’t quit before the miracle. Wallpaper your mind with love. Rest is all noise and baloney.”
Despite her recent setback, many fans are optimistic that she will overcome it, as she has done before.
After gaining fame in the 90s with American Pie, Lyonne confessed to the Guardian that she joined the ranks of child actors who faced substance abuse issues.
The early 2000s saw her embroiled in numerous scandals related to alcohol and drugs, from driving under the influence to being hospitalized in New York in 2005.
At that time, the actress admitted she was pushing limits without concern for her career.
Lyonne has revealed that doctors diagnosed her with Hepatitis C, a collapsed lung, and an infection known as heroin heart, which results from extended heroin use.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “Listen, I did not think I was coming back… so I didn’t really care. When you go as deep into the belly of the beast as I went, there’s a whole other world going on and something like show business becomes the dumbest thing on planet Earth.
“I was definitely as good as dead, you know? A lot of people don’t come back. That makes me feel wary, and self-conscious. I wouldn’t want to feel prideful about it.”
With support from her friend and fellow actress, Chloë Sevigny, and a court-mandated rehab stint, Lyonne was able to achieve sobriety in 2006.
