Woman detained for allegedly planning to assassinate President Trump

A woman in West Virginia has been taken into custody and faces charges for allegedly making terroristic threats against US President Donald Trump.

The President of the United States has reportedly been the target of multiple assassination plots over time. In July 2024, Thomas Crooks attempted a shooting that resulted in Trump sustaining a minor injury. More recently, Iranian state TV has also issued threats against him.

The arrest took place on Sunday evening, January 25, when Morgan L Morrow was apprehended in Ripley, West Virginia, following an intensive investigation conducted by the Jackson County Bureau of Investigations.

In a Facebook statement, the authorities confirmed Morrow’s arrest and her subsequent transportation to South Central Regional Jail (SCRJ).

Morrow, who works as a librarian and is 39 years old, faces one charge of issuing terroristic threats.

The Jackson County Bureau of Investigations claims that Morrow was using social media to ‘recruit’ individuals for an effort to ‘pursue and assassinate President Trump.’

According to the Marietta Times, a criminal complaint indicates the sheriff’s office became aware of potential threats made on TikTok on January 25. Although the threats were aimed at an unidentified person, they were assumed to involve the President.

One social media post allegedly stated: “Surely a sniper with terminal illness can’t be a big ask out of 342 million.”

The Bureau’s Facebook statement added: “Further details will be released as we continue to compile facts and further the investigation.”

It also noted that the charge against Morrow is one of “TERRORISTIC THREATS.”

The sheriff’s office emphasized that the statement was not intended to be politically oriented.

Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger remarked: “We all have our opinions. That doesn’t mean you can make threats on someone’s life.”

As of now, no bond has been established for Morrow.

Trump has not yet commented on this particular assassination plot, but he has previously spoken out against threats from Iran.

Following the death of Gen Qasem Soleimani, Iranian state TV broadcast a segment targeting Trump. The broadcast, on January 14, depicted Trump surrounded by Secret Service agents after the 2024 assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A caption with the image warned: “This time, [the bullet] won’t miss.”

Amichai Stein, a correspondent for i24 News and The Jerusalem Post, shared the segment on X, including a translation from Farsi.

In an interview with NewsNation’s Katie Pavlich, Trump addressed the threat, stating that he had left orders for Iran to face severe retaliation if anything were to happen to him.

The Jackson County Bureau of Investigations and the White House have been approached for comment.
