Sex therapist Kaly Miller has recently provided insight into her profession and shared a particularly poignant client story.
Kaly Miller made an appearance on the British morning show This Morning where she delved into her journey towards becoming a sex surrogate.
Sex surrogates are distinct from sex workers or prostitutes as their role often involves exploring the emotional and psychological dimensions of sexual intimacy, particularly for clients facing difficulties in these areas.
During her appearance on the show, Miller recounted how she inadvertently entered the field while previously working as a remedial sports massage therapist.
She mentioned that it was in her late 30s, after studying psychosexuality, when she realized the extent of her lack of understanding regarding her own humanity.

While she continued her work as a massage therapist, Miller came across a newspaper advertisement seeking ‘open-minded body workers’. Initially uncertain about what she was stepping into, Miller recounted how her first client helped her find comfort in this unique profession. She shared a particularly touching moment that has stayed with her.
She recounted: “It was an incredible person, who had lived their life being very shy and awkward, never really engaging in any intimacy.
“They were in their mid 60s and during our conversation, I asked ‘why are you here, what brought you to this’.
“I wasn’t prepared for the depth of the response: ‘I don’t want to die without knowing what love feels like’.
“My heart literally goes up, because I not only remember the moment, I remember the voice, the person, the feeling of them, and their journey.”
She revealed another aspect of the client’s life: the individual was so deprived of touch that they would use coins at the shop instead of notes, just for the brief contact with the cashier.
The client would also glance at a woman through a window from his home, dreaming of possibilities yet lacking the confidence to pursue her.
Miller reflected on this experience, saying: “In that moment, I realized this is where I belong, and this is what I was meant to do.”
