Tim Cook faces criticism over an internal memo he reportedly sent following the death of Alex Pretti.
Pretti, an ICU nurse, was shot by a federal agent on January 24 during an anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, resulting in his death.
This incident occurred shortly after another shooting involving a 37-year-old mother, Renee Good, who succumbed to her injuries after being shot by an officer.
The shootings have intensified tensions in the city between ICE agents and the public.
Public figures, including Mandy Moore, have openly criticized ICE’s actions, describing Pretti’s death as an ‘execution’ and expressing concern over America’s current situation, calling it ‘terrifying territory’.
Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed the situation in a purported internal memo to employees, which Bloomberg acquired.

According to reports, he stated on Apple’s employee website: “Team, I am heartbroken by the events in Minneapolis, and my prayers and deepest sympathies are with the families, with the communities, and with everyone that’s been affected.”
Cook continued: “This is a time for deescalation. I believe America is strongest when we live up to our highest ideals, when we treat everyone with dignity and respect no matter who they are or where they’re from, and we embrace our shared humanity.
“This is something that Apple has always advocated for. I had a good conversation with the president this week where I shared my views, and I appreciate his openness to engaging in issues that matter to us all.”
He wrapped up his memo by expressing pride in how Apple’s employees care about the world, noting that empathy is ‘one of Apple’s greatest strengths’ and thanking everyone for ‘all that you do’.
Cook’s comments, verified by CBS News, have sparked mixed reactions on social media. One person commented: “Tim needs to focus on making the iPhone keyword work well again.”
“Exhibit A for weak leadership 101,” remarked another.
“You should be ashamed @tim_cook it is obvious you lack a moral compass and only think in dollar terms,” another user criticized.
“This was a nothing burger response,” said someone else regarding Cook’s message.

However, some offered support, with one stating: “Don’t know why so many people are angry at Tim Cook. He is in tech company. Nothing to do with it.”
Another added: “It was very well said. I think he handled it with grace and understanding.”
