China Executes 11 Mafia Family Members for Billion-Dollar Online Romance Scam

In China, 11 members of the Ming family have faced execution after being convicted of various crimes, including a massive scam involving a billion dollars.

The mafia-affiliated Ming family was sentenced to death last year for numerous offenses such as murdering 14 Chinese citizens, illegal detention, widespread fraud, and a billion-dollar scam.

Following the court’s decision, the group attempted to appeal, but their appeal was denied.

The family’s criminal enterprise generated over £1,000,000,000 annually, starting in 2015.

They achieved this by engaging people online in fake romantic relationships to deceive them into investing in cryptocurrency schemes.

Metro reported that the leader of the Ming family, Ming Xuechang, committed suicide to evade justice alongside his family members.

The scam operation was based in Myanmar, primarily targeting Chinese speakers and employing tactics to defraud them.

The downfall of this criminal empire occurred in 2023 when Myanmar authorities apprehended the family, who were subsequently extradited to China to face prosecution.

They operated out of a small town in Myanmar near the Chinese border, transforming it into a center for criminal activities, including telecommunication fraud, illegal gambling establishments, drug trafficking, and prostitution.

While some family members admitted to their crimes and expressed regret in court, China remains resolute in its efforts to dismantle scam operations along its borders.

In September, more than 20 additional members of the Ming family received prison sentences ranging from five years to life imprisonment.

Former workers, who were initially kidnapped and coerced into participating in the operations, testified that the heavily guarded compound where they worked was rife with violence. They described frequent beatings and torture as part of their experience.
