Individual recounts near-death experience of ‘burning up’ while being ‘squeezed’ back into their body

An individual recounted a seemingly traumatic moment when they returned to their body after experiencing a near-death event.

Near-death experiences often leave individuals with unusual memories as they try to understand what they went through.

Whether resulting from a coma, a car accident, or being clinically ‘dead’ for a period of time, people report encountering various strange phenomena.

Some experiences may bring comfort, such as meeting loved ones or affirming spiritual beliefs, while others can be more unsettling.

Many view near-death experiences as evidence of an afterlife, whereas others argue they are the brain’s way of easing us in our final moments.

One person shared their unsettling experience on a Reddit thread dedicated to near-death stories.

Describing the sensation of ‘returning’ to their body, they stated: “For me, it was a re-entry through fire. I thought I was burning up inside after growing so huge and being squashed back into my body.”

Reflecting on the medication they were given, they said: “It was as if fire ants had suddenly invaded my body. Maybe that was from the adrenaline shot.

“I thought I was back from the afterlife; I was already back in my body, and then the angel and the rain came and sucked me right back in because I was trying to detach myself again.”

This feeling did not cease immediately. They further explained: “For days afterward, I kept having the feeling that I was floating away again, but also that concrete was pulling me down.”

Other commenters also shared their experiences of ‘re-entering’ their bodies.

One user compared it to the sensation after swimming: “You know how when you spend a few hours swimming in a pool and you feel weightless and then you get out of the pool and you feel all heavy?

“It was like that for me. Coming back into my body felt heavy and dense, just like that.”

Some described it as akin to waking up from a deep sleep: “For me it was like slowly waking from a deep sleep first hearing, then eyes opening, then slow realization of situation, then the pain started.”

Another participant likened their experience to falling from the sky.

They shared: “I had the sensation of falling at a very high speed from the sky. Before I opened my eyes I heard a beautiful, angelic music or choirs in my left ear.”
