Britney Spears asserts she’s ‘fortunate to be alive’ while criticizing family treatment

Britney Spears has shared an emotional message criticizing her family after enduring her conservatorship ordeal.

Britney expressed that she’s ‘fortunate to be alive’ given the way her family treated her during the 13-year conservatorship led by her father, Jamie Spears, from 2008 until 2021.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday (February 4), she stated, “As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone.”

She continued, “For those of you in your family that have [sic] said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out … they were wrong. We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget.”

Britney wrote, “Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!!” emphasizing, “I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them.”

Before her conservatorship concluded, Spears alleged that her management coerced her into touring and performing a prolonged Las Vegas residency in 2018, and that she was compelled to take lithium as she lacked authority over her own healthcare decisions.

The ‘Toxic’ singer reflected on how ‘it’s weird how God works in mysterious ways,’ and posed the question: “My friends, what do you think he is saying today ???

“Because to be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did.”

She concluded her post by disclosing that she had broken her toe twice and hadn’t danced ‘in a month’.

Britney frequently uploads videos of herself dancing and spinning in her home, which she mentioned brings her joy since the end of her conservatorship.

However, she noted she was trying something different to find happiness during this period, which was baking.

She shared: “So I’ve made cheesecake today and I must say it’s pretty damn good … my neighbor joined me with milk !!!”

In light of Britney’s earlier allegations regarding the conservatorship, Jamie Spears released a statement through his attorney, Vivian Thoreen, during the 2021 court proceedings that led to his suspension as her conservator.

The statement read, “Mr. Spears loves his daughter Britney unconditionally,” as reported by Variety. “For thirteen years, he has tried to do what is in her best interests, whether as a conservator or her father.

“This started with agreeing to serve as her conservator when she voluntarily entered into the conservatorship. This included helping her revive her career and re-establish a relationship with her children.

“For anyone who has tried to help a family member dealing with mental health issues, they can appreciate the tremendous amount of daily worry and work this required. For Mr. Spears, this also meant biting his tongue and not responding to all the false, speculative, and unsubstantiated attacks on him by certain members of the public, media, or more recently, Britney’s own attorney.”
