Ideal Duration for Sex According to Men

Curious about the ideal duration men prefer for sex and foreplay? The information you’ve been looking for is right here.

If you’ve ever taken cues from the adult industry, you might assume men desire sex sessions that stretch over an hour or more.

However, for most women, this assumption couldn’t be further from reality.

GQ conducted an inquiry, engaging a select group of women and non-binary individuals to discuss their preferences in the bedroom. The consensus was that five to 10 minutes of penetrative sex was preferred, with an additional 10 to 15 minutes devoted to foreplay.

Although research suggests men generally have a higher sex drive than women, it doesn’t necessarily follow that they seek longer sexual encounters to satisfy this drive.

Despite potential differences in sex drives, both men and women appear to agree on the preferred length of sexual activity.

A 2004 study highlighted by Sex and Psychology revealed that men favor approximately 18 minutes for both intercourse and foreplay.

This research, involving 152 heterosexual couples in Canada, also showed that women preferred 14 minutes for intercourse and 19 minutes for foreplay, indicating only slight variation in preferences.

Interestingly, these ideal durations didn’t align perfectly with actual experiences, as it was found that heterosexual adults generally perceive sex to last about 18 to 21 minutes.

Consider this your cue to adjust accordingly.

Additionally, an expert has provided insights into what they consider the optimal duration for foreplay.

In a discussion with the Metro, certified sex and relationship coach Gemma Nice stated: “Men can usually climax in around 5-7 minutes, whereas it typically takes a female anywhere between 20-30 minutes.”

Given this disparity, Nice recommended couples aim for about 15 to 20 minutes of pre-game activities. Extending foreplay can be even more beneficial…

“The longer you’re engaged in foreplay, the more aroused and relaxed the body will be,” Nice elaborated.

“When your body is in a state of calm, the blood can then flow from the heart, lungs and brain and move down to the genitals, allowing the 10,000+ nerve endings there to be activated. This can then give a better overall sexual satisfaction to both partners.”

It’s worth noting these points for future reference.
