A new poll has outlined how Americans view Donald Trump’s performance in office, including opinions on major topics like immigration and tariffs.
Since the president began his second term after returning to the White House in January 2025, a steady stream of surveys has attempted to measure how the public feels he is handling the job this time around.
Several of those findings have been unfavorable for Trump. Last month, research from the Pew Research Center reported his approval rating at 37 percent.
Now, fresh results from a Washington Post and IPSOS poll suggest that six in ten Americans disapprove of the way President Trump is running the country.
The survey examined views across six central policy areas, with tariffs and immigration among the most prominent.
On trade, the Trump administration has rolled out multiple tariffs on imported goods, with some set at strikingly high levels.

Immigration has also remained a cornerstone issue for the administration. Earlier this year, the Department of State said around 100,000 visas have been canceled since Trump returned to office.
The Republican president previously vowed to ‘launch the largest deportation program in American history’ as part of an effort he said would remove ‘criminals out’ of the US.
Trump said he would remove any illegal immigrants, as he added: “I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”
According to the Washington Post and IPSOS poll, respondents were largely negative about Trump’s approach on both immigration and tariffs. On tariffs specifically, 34 percent of those surveyed said they approve, while 64 percent said they disapprove.

On immigration, 40 percent said they approve of the president’s methods, compared with 58 percent who said they disapprove of his policies.
Beyond those two areas, Trump also scored weakly on issues including inflation and the broader economy. However, he received more favorable feedback regarding his policies at the southern border.
Even with these low ratings, Anna Kelly previously told Newsweek that Trump was ‘delivering on his promises, and the American people remain firmly aligned with the President’s agenda to Make America Great Again, regardless of the Mainstream Media’s so-called polling’.
