Donald Trump’s niece reveals what she thinks is the ‘real reason’ US attacked Iran

Mary Trump has shared her view on why the POTUS — her uncle — has “declared war to save himself” following the US’ attack on Iran.

Mary, who runs a YouTube channel called Mary Trump Media, posted a new video to the platform on March 4 titled “Trump Declares War to Save Himself”.

Her comments come shortly after the US and Israel carried out a joint strike on Iran, prompting Iran to respond with attacks targeting American assets and allies across the Gulf.

Launching into the topic, Mary — whose late father, Fred Trump, was the president’s older brother — opens with a blunt assessment: “It surpasses understanding that any sentient person would believe a word that comes out of Donald’s mouth.”

She then points to moments where, in her view, the POTUS’ claims and conduct have not matched up, and argues that the same pattern is playing out in relation to Iran.

The caption on the video asks: “Trump launches an unconstitutional war with Iran as chaos erupts and civilians die. Is this about ‘national security’—or a desperate distraction from his unraveling scandals?”

In the video itself, Mary looks back to strikes carried out in June last year “against Iranian nuclear sites”.

“They were necessary, we were told, to stop of at least hobble Iran’s nuclear program,” she says. “According to Donald, that mission was successful and the country’s nuclear capabilities were ‘obliterated’. That is a direct quote.”

She argues that the messaging has shifted, saying Trump is now presenting a new justification for the weekend’s escalation — claiming it is partly because Iran is developing nuclear weapons that “could soon reach the American homeland”.

Mary adds: “His concern over this possibility of course is believed by the fact that he unilaterally withdrew the US from the Joint Comprehensive plan of action also known as the JCPOA , or the Iran nuclear deal, which was specifically designed to limit Iran’s uranium enrichment program in exchange for the easing of economic sanctions.”

Mary also notes that Trump has described the latest attack as tied to pursuing “regime change” in Iran.

She continues: “The Iranian people have suffered long and horribly under the cruel and repressive authoritarian theocracy currently in power. They deserve to be free, and they deserve the ability to determine their own system of governance.”

Earlier this week, the White House issued a statement presenting the strikes as a response to “47 years of Iranian aggression – including attacks on US citizens, sponsorship of global terrorism, and brutal oppression of its own people”.

Mary disputes that rationale, arguing that the president “has no interest” in helping Iranians or in laying groundwork for conditions she says would support freedom, nor in aiding efforts to replace the current government.

She asks “how exactly” the US is “backing” the Iranian people, before adding: “He cares even less about the future of the Iranian people. There’s no plan now because there never has been a plan.

“Donald wreaks havoc and then he expects other people to pick up the rubble of his destruction. To date, this has worked for him because he never suffers the consequences of his reckless and ill-considered actions.

“For Donald, there is one reason and one reason alone. He’s in trouble and he knows it. This isn’t simply about changing the subject. That, of course, would be bad enough.

“This is to keep himself and the world from knowing what an inept, depraved, compromised fraud he is. This is about his unfathomable desperation to avoid being humiliated.”

Mary concludes by characterizing Trump as “a desperately weak man” who, she claims, needs distractions to keep people from seeing that — and to compensate for what she describes as a diminishing ability to feel powerful.
