School teacher suspended after being caught ‘urinating in class’ in footage

A teacher has been busted after allegedly using his classroom as his personal toilet.

An educator said to work at a school in Rocklin has been placed on leave, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The alleged incident was captured on a cellphone recording later obtained by the media. The clip appears to show the teacher in his classroom as he unbuttons his pants and urinates into a container positioned out of view.

The phone seems to have been set on a table, leaving the footage clear from the waist up while anything below that remains off camera.

In the video, the teacher—identified as Dan Champ of Granite Oaks Middle School—appears to urinate into a large red mug, then fastens his clothing again, adjusts his pants, and looks relieved.

“Gosh, that’s good — gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh.”

Moments later, as he walks across the room to dispose of the urine, he speaks again.

‘love it, love it’.

Champ, an eighth-grade history teacher and Associated Student Body adviser, was seemingly recorded by students. The clip suggests it may have been set up in advance.

In the footage, students enter the classroom roughly a minute after the teacher urinates. Giggling can be heard, and a hand reaches in to grab the phone.

The video later made its way to a parent, and on February 25 families were told that a teacher had been placed on leave.

“This afternoon, after school dismissal, a parent and a staff member informed the School Administration of a video showing an employee engaging in conduct inconsistent with our professional standards.

It adds: “While the unverified video does not involve any students or other staff, the employee has been placed on leave while Granite Oaks Middle School and the Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) investigate the incident.

“Although we are unable to share specific details, this matter is being taken seriously and will be addressed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.”

Champ also operates a business called Chap Tours with his wife, offering trips to historic sites along the US East Coast. A request for comment was sent to the company regarding the allegations.

Information on the company’s website says Champ has led student educational and cultural tours for more than 20 years.

“As an 8th grade U.S. History teacher, his passion is the “East Coast Trip” to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. But he has also led middle and high-schoolers to Europe, the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia. His wife, Myla, has been joining him on these adventures since 2013.”

Online reactions to the video have been divided, with some arguing teachers need more opportunities for breaks, while others described the situation as unsettling.

“I saw the video. It was really weird and there was enough time for him to go to the restroom. Per the children, this is a regular occurrence,’ one parent wrote online. “My daughter’s friend who is a junior remembers being in his class and it always smelling weird.”

“Although this is highly concerning, why are students secretly filming a teacher alone in their classroom? That to me is also disturbing.”

Requests for comment were also sent to Granite Oaks Middle School and the Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD).
