When One Piece season 3 could release as ‘wildly impressive’ new episodes debut with 100% ratings

One Piece viewers may not have to wait as long as expected for season three to arrive.

Netflix has only just released season two — a 16-episode run that landed on Wednesday (March 10).

Adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s hugely popular manga, the series centers on aspiring pirate Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his determination to claim the title of King of the Pirates.

To chase that goal, Luffy and the Straw Hats take on the Grand Line — a notoriously dangerous sea route circling the Blue Planet — as they hunt for the legendary treasure known as the “One Piece.”

As teased in the official synopsis, season two raises the stakes as the crew runs into tougher opponents and even riskier missions.

“Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line – a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.”

Those episodes are already performing extremely well with critics and viewers, earning a perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics score and a strong 95 percent from audiences.

“Even after an excellent first season, One Piece Season 2 feels like a wildly impressive level-up in many respects,” one critic wrote.

“For new viewers, it adds depth. For longtime fans, it is the chance to see moments they assumed would never make it to live action,” a second says.

“Either way, the show justifies itself.”

A third went even further, calling it ‘the standard by which all manga adaptations must meet.’

Season three has already been confirmed, and Netflix previously revealed in November that production was underway in Cape Town, South Africa.

New cast additions are also on the way, including Cobra Kai actor Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace and Big Mouth’s Cole Escola as the “theatrical assassin” Bon Clay.

“And it looks like the Straw Hats will have their hands full with two more Baroque Works agents hitting the high seas as recurring guest stars in Season 3,” Netflix said, adding that Shadow and Bone‘s Daisy Head would join the cast as Miss Doublefinger, while Subversion’s Awdo Awdo has been cast as Mr. 1.

The biggest question still hanging over fans is the release timing for the next season.

There was a lengthy gap of around two and a half years between season one’s August 2023 debut and season two arriving in March 2026.

That delay was largely driven by the 2023 Hollywood labor strikes, which disrupted production timelines across the entertainment industry.

The outlook seems more promising this time, however. With filming already in progress since last year, season three could potentially arrive sometime from mid-to-late 2027, or possibly in early 2028.

Netflix hasn’t shared an official premiere window yet, but the early production start suggests the wait may be shorter than last time.
