There has been a new development involving a boy who became a father at 12 after his girlfriend fell pregnant when she was 15.
Hunter Johnson and his girlfriend Bella drew widespread attention after appearing on TLC’s documentary series Unexpected, which tracks families navigating unplanned pregnancies, often centered around teen parents.
The show followed the couple after Bella became pregnant at 14 while Hunter was 12. They later welcomed their son, Wesley, in 2025.
Bella previously reflected on the situation during the series.
“I didn’t think at 15 I would be pregnant. I didn’t think with a 13-year-old either.”
Hunter also spoke about how quickly his life changed.
“I was 12 when I found out I was going to be a dad. Now I’m 13. I did not think I would be finishing 8th grade and becoming a dad at the same time.”
Now, another twist has emerged as the family situation continues to play out.

The update comes from Hunter’s father, Casey Johnson, who is asking a judge to prevent his son—now 14—from moving in with Bella and her family.
Casey has previously voiced strong opinions about what happened, saying he believes his son has “ruined” his life, a view Hunter pushed back against during the show.
The latest request reportedly follows a period in which Hunter’s mother allowed him to live with Bella before the pregnancy.
A court filing from Casey, reported by The Ashley, addressed that arrangement.
“[Hunter’s mom] allowed the minor child to move in with his girlfriend who became pregnant soon after.”
In the same filing, Casey also alleges that Hunter has been given access to marijuana by his mother, Stacie, along with concerns about schooling and stability.
“Further, [Casey] believes that [Stacie] provides the minor child with marijuana and does not make the minor child go to school… [Stacie] is providing an unstable and unwholesome environment for the minor child.”

Casey is now seeking full custody of Hunter after the parents were previously granted temporary joint custody.
Meanwhile, Bella has said she stands by the decision to take part in the series and speak publicly about her experience.
“If I didn’t want to share my story and let people know my situation, ’cause it is pretty unique compared to other people’s, I wouldn’t do it,”
She also addressed her family’s social media activity.
“The teen added: “The other reason my mom posts TikToks is ’cause it was my idea.”
Casey reportedly has not appeared on the show, with it being suggested that his absence is linked to his disapproval of the circumstances.
