A doctor has revealed one simple item that could make a big difference in the bedroom.
Even though sex is a normal part of many relationships, it can still feel awkward to bring up.
But like anything intimate, being able to speak openly matters — not only for comfort and consent, but because it often improves the experience for everyone involved.
That said, communication isn’t the only factor that can affect how things feel.
Dr Mark Perera, who works in sexual health, has pointed to a straightforward addition that he says can upgrade sex for most people — and it’s not expensive or complicated.
It’s also not some niche product or “expert-only” trick. It’s something almost anyone can use.

When asked what the single best thing is to improve the experience, he said: “One word – lube.”
Many people associate lubricant with specific types of sex, particularly those that don’t involve vaginal intercourse.
And because the vagina naturally produces lubrication — especially with enough arousal and foreplay — some assume adding lube is unnecessary.
However, Dr Perera suggests that even with natural lubrication, using a lubricant can still make sex feel smoother and more comfortable for everyone involved.
“Lubricant is everyone’s best friend, it makes sex so much more pleasurable, it allows things to slide a bit more easily,” he said.
“So you don’t have to worry about any kind of awkwardness.”
He also noted that sex can be untidy at times, and reducing discomfort from friction can make it easier to relax and focus on enjoying it. “Sex obviously can be messy now and then anyway, so you’re just enjoying that experience and not having to worry about friction. It will change your life.”
With lots of options on the market, he emphasized that it’s worth finding a lubricant that suits your body and preferences.

If you’re prone to sensitivities or allergies, it’s sensible to check the ingredients first — as the wrong formula could cause irritation instead of helping.
Dr Perera also addressed another issue that can cause pressure in the bedroom for some people: maintaining an erection.
He explained that it’s a common concern, and suggested starting with a few basic checks to work out what might be contributing to it.
“Believe it or not, 90 percent of why people can’t keep it up is psychogenic rather than medical,” he said.
“Have a look into your lifestyle – if you’re stressed, not sleeping properly, drinking too much – that could be one of the reasons.”
