McDonald’s staff throw surprise party for ‘amazing’ 95-year-old regular customer

Customer loyalty can come with unexpected surprises at McDonald’s, after staff at one restaurant organised a birthday celebration for a much-loved regular.

Keeping a long-running tradition doesn’t usually come with fanfare — but for one diner, a familiar yearly routine turned into something genuinely memorable.

In a video now circulating online, the McDonald’s in Hinsdale, Illinois, marked Charmaine Blessman’s 95th birthday with a special celebration, recognising the decades she has spent visiting the location.

NBC 5 Chicago reports that one employee even made a cake by hand, continuing Blessman’s tradition of spending her birthdays at McDonald’s with her family.

The clip was posted to Facebook by her nephew, Jim Blessman, and the gesture quickly drew warm reactions from people who know the family.

“This is so VERY special!! Thank you for sharing, Lee. Mom Happy Birthday for me!!! Happy Birthday Mrs. B!!”, someone wrote.

“Happy birthday Mrs. Blessman. What an amazing milestone,” another person added.

“I can’t love this more!! Happy Birthday, Mrs Blessman!!!” A user shared.

The moment didn’t just delight viewers online — staff at the restaurant were equally happy to help celebrate someone they’ve come to know so well.

“Turning 95 really is a big deal,” McDonald’s employee Cynthia Murillo told NBC 5: “We all came together to make it special for her. One of my co-workers baked the cake.” She gushed about their customer: “Charmaine is amazing.”

The celebration included yellow-and-white cake topped with Blessman’s image, plus balloons — and, of course, her family by her side.

While the effort might seem over the top at first glance, employees have known Blessman for years. Her usual order is a two-hamburger meal with extra onions, fries, and a Diet Coke — or sometimes a coffee drink.

Despite being a familiar face at the branch and spending every birthday there, Blessman didn’t see the celebration coming.

“I thought, ‘My goodness, what is going on here?’” Blessman, who was with her daughter, told the outlet.

“Everyone is grinning at me; how can I not feel good?”, she added, mentioning someone she wished could have witnessed the occasion. “I loved my husband and wish he could be here with us. We had 62 years together.”

“I love to cook, and I love be with people,” Blessman went on to share. “Love to come to McDonald’s.”

Her daughter, Lee Antonio — who brings her to the restaurant — told Fox 32 Chicago that McDonald’s has become her mother’s preferred place to celebrate.

“She loves it, especially this one,” Antonio said, explaining that her mum is well known there.

This time around, though, the annual visit came with a surprise that made the milestone birthday feel even more special.
