Olivia Rodrigo trolls Jake Paul with savage dig during SNL opening monologue

Olivia Rodrigo took a swing at Jake Paul in her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live with a savage swipe at the YouTuber.

The singer and actor appeared on the sketch show as a guest, and her opening remarks followed the usual tradition of weaving in a few pointed celebrity jokes.

Rodrigo and Paul actually crossed paths years ago, when both were part of Disney’s Bizaardvark, which aired from 2016 to 2019. At the time, Rodrigo was 13, while Paul was 19.

The comedy series focuses on Frankie Wong and Paige Olvera (played by Madison Hu and Rodrigo) as they build an online following by posting music and comedy videos.

Paul was part of the cast for the first two seasons, playing Dirk Mann, a character known for carrying out dare requests sent in by fans.

Since then, Rodrigo has established herself as a major music star, while Paul has stayed in the public eye through social media—alongside a growing boxing career.

During her monologue, Rodrigo looked back on her Disney days and used the moment to poke fun at Paul’s recent boxing headlines.

“When I was 13 I was on a Disney show called Bizaardvark,” she said.

“We had an incredible cast, which included acting legend Jake Paul. We’d always talk about our futures, me and Jake.”

She added: “I’d say, ‘I really want to create music that explores the complexities of girls my age.’

“And he’d say, ‘Well, one day I really want to beat up old guys on Netflix.’ And we both did it! Hurray!”

Paul has also reflected positively on his time on the series, telling PEOPLE: “Man, it was just a fun time, to be honest. I think it was a good kickstart to my career because I was the first-ever influencer on TV.”

Rodrigo’s jab referenced Paul’s Netflix bout with Mike Tyson, a matchup that drew criticism because Tyson—then 60—was so much older than him.

Paul, who fights under the nickname ‘The Problem Child,’ has built a reputation for taking on opponents significantly older than he is, and Rodrigo’s line leaned directly into that narrative.

Later, Paul, 29, reportedly fought Anthony Joshua, 36, a rival closer to his own age.

Joshua was said to have won that contest, and it was later confirmed that Paul’s jaw had been broken in two places during the fight.

Afterwards, Joshua praised Paul’s willingness to step in, saying: “We have to give Jake his respect for trying. Well done, but he came up against a real fighter tonight.”
