After talk of a “Trump passport,” attention has now shifted to a possible “Trump airport.” Palm Beach International Airport could soon be renamed in honor of the current president — and the move may come with commercial opportunities.
Airports named for US presidents aren’t unusual. Following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, New York’s Idlewild Airport was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) just a month later as a tribute, and it has carried that name ever since. Former presidents such as George Bush and Abraham Lincoln are also among a group of 11 who have had airports named after them.
For Donald Trump, this wouldn’t be the first local landmark to adopt his name. Earlier this year, a four-mile section of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County was officially designated ‘President Donald J. Trump Boulevard’.
Then, on March 30, Florida governor Ron DeSantis filed a motion to rename Palm Beach International Airport as the President Donald J Trump International Airport. The proposal followed a trademark application tied to Trump’s business that was filed in February.
Since then, Palm Beach County commissioners have signed off on a licensing arrangement with the Trump family business.
If the change goes through, Trump would stand out from other presidents with airports bearing their names, as he would be the first to have trademarked the name connected to the facility.

Trump-linked companies have argued the trademark is intended to protect the name legally, not to generate personal profit for him.
A statement from The Trump Organization added that Trump ‘has been willing to provide this right to the president’s hometown county at no charge.’
However, an agreement signed by Trump — as reported by the Miami Herald — allegedly creates room for airport-branded products, potentially including “President Donald J. Trump Airport” merchandise.
The Herald also reports that the company would be able to “make a list of ‘approved retailers’ from which airport stores have to buy their airport-branded merchandise.”
According to the same report, any business selling the items would be required to buy them ‘exclusively and directly from such entities designated by Licensor’ — DTTM Operations, LLC, which is led by Donald Trump Jr. as president.
The Herald further notes that while the agreement says Trump and affiliated parties can’t profit from the purchase or sale of these goods, they may retain influence over who is permitted to produce them.
Trademark lawyer Josh Gerben told the Herald: “Normally a license agreement says that the goods have to be of a certain quality. It doesn’t say that you have to purchase them from a retailer that we’re approving them from.”
Gerben also reportedly said the language would not prevent the Trump family from earning money on merchandise sold outside airport property.
Eric Trump later posted what he described as the official logo, sharing it with his followers on X.
For the first time, I am extremely proud to share the OFFICIAL logo for the Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida. There is no person more deserving of this incredible honor than @realDonaldTrump! Congratulations Dad!

Alongside the picture, the 42-year-old penned: “For the first time, I am extremely proud to share the OFFICIAL logo for the Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida.
“There is no person more deserving of this incredible honor than @realDonaldTrump! Congratulations Dad! Looking forward to seeing flights landing at ‘DJT’ very very soon!”
Trump also commented publicly on what the rename could mean for travelers and future development.
“We have a lot of things in store. A lot of tremendous elements are going to be added to the airport, making it bigger and better,” he said.
If approved and implemented on schedule, passengers could begin seeing the updated name as soon as July 1.
