While many TV series have to build an audience over time with cliffhangers and slow-burn character arcs, Prime Video’s planned adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ work starts with a major advantage: a huge, already-established readership.
This month at the Upfront presentation in New York City, the platform officially confirmed a series order based on Yarros’ Fourth Wing. With several high-profile creatives attached, the project is already generating serious momentum.
The fantasy phenomenon is being brought to the screen by showrunner Meredith Averill, known for her work on Netflix’s acclaimed horror drama The Haunting of Hill House, which holds a 93 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.
Michael B. Jordan is also attached as an executive producer, helping guide the adaptation as Violet Sorrengail’s story transitions from page to screen.

Fourth Wing launches Yarros’ The Empyrean series and centers on Violet, a 20-year-old who is unexpectedly pushed out of a safer, quieter life and into Basgiath War College. There, she’s thrust into the dangerous path of training to become a dragon rider in the kingdom of Navarre.
That premise will form the backbone of the TV narrative—though readers who want a head start can always dive into the novels now and stay ahead of whatever the show reveals first.
Originally published in 2023, Fourth Wing quickly took off, setting the stage for the next two books, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm.
For now, Prime Video hasn’t shared many specifics about the series.
No casting has been announced, and there’s still no release date. However, The Hollywood Reporter notes the adaptation has been in development at Prime Video for more than two years, suggesting progress is well underway behind the scenes.
Yarros will serve as an executive producer as well, which should reassure fans hoping the show keeps faith with the source material.

Early reaction from readers has been enthusiastic, with many pointing to Jordan’s involvement as a particularly encouraging sign.
“Michael B. Jordan backing this adaptation is a strong signal. If done right, this could dominate fantasy TV for years,” they wrote on X.
Another added: “This is going to be massive. Fourth Wing fans have been begging for this and with that team behind it the dragons battles and romance should look incredible on screen. Cant wait.”
With plenty still to be revealed, fans will be watching closely for the next update.
