France confines over 1,700 passengers aboard cruise ship after suspected virus outbreak

Approximately 1,700 passengers are being kept on board a cruise ship in France following an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness.

The vessel has arrived in Bordeaux, where it remains docked after reports that one passenger has died, though the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Ambition is said to be carrying more than 1,000 passengers—primarily British and Irish—while around 50 people are currently experiencing symptoms.

In a statement to the BBC, Ambassador Cruise Line said the passenger who died had not reported any symptoms, adding that the cause of death is still unknown.

They added: \”We are providing every support to the deceased’s friends and family and extend our most sincere condolences to them at this difficult time.\”
