Jimmy Kimmel roasts White House suggestion that Trump could be next James Bond

Jimmy Kimmel has savagely responded to the White House’s suggestion that Donald Trump could be the perfect person to play the next James Bond.

The late-night host, well known for taking jabs at the President, weighed in after official White House social media accounts circulated a Bond-style mock-up depicting Trump holding a gun fitted with a silencer, framed as if he were the iconic spy.

“The White House jumped on the crazy train and posted this, suggesting that Trump would be the next James Bond,” Kimmel, 58, said during his Monday, May 18 monologue. “Grab ’em by the Octopussy, we got a new James Bond in town!”

He continued by comparing the fictional “007” persona to real-world politics, adding:

“I think 007 is his approval rating right now,” he added. “Imagine a very unpopular president, in the middle of a very unpopular war, the cost of everything is skyrocketing, gas is very expensive and you are spending your time posting online about how hot you are, how you captured an alien and how you should be the next James Bond.”

In the same segment, Kimmel also referenced one of Trump’s recent Truth Social bursts, mentioning a manipulated image that showed him standing with a handcuffed alien. The joke followed closely after the White House’s official X account shared an image of Trump in a Bond-like tuxedo, armed with a silenced handgun, alongside the words “Make America Great Again.”

Although the idea of Trump stepping into the role of the British superspy is wildly unlikely, speculation about his future career isn’t entirely unheard of—particularly once his second term ends in 2029.

As the Constitution currently stands, presidents are limited to two terms. While Trump has publicly floated the notion of changing that rule to allow for an additional four years, no amendment has been enacted.

After leaving office, he could attempt to leverage his public profile by returning to television or film. Before entering politics, he built a media presence via The Apprentice and appeared in several on-screen cameos, including Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Meanwhile, the bigger question for moviegoers remains who will actually be cast as the next James Bond for Amazon’s planned reboot of the franchise. For now, the search appears to be under wraps, with reports suggesting studio leaders may prefer a lesser-known British actor to introduce the character to a new era.

The role has previously been defined by major stars across decades—Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and most recently Daniel Craig—yet a fresh face could be a deliberate move to reset the series and energize longtime fans.

Addressing the casting process, Amazon MGM Studios said in a Thursday, May 14 statement.

”While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
