Jersey Shore star Snooki explains why she ‘couldn’t breathe’ after ‘painful’ boob job

A major reality TV name from the last two decades has opened up about how getting breast implants left her gasping for breath — and stunned by what she saw after surgery.

Nicole Polizzi, widely recognized as Jersey Shore star ‘Snooki’, revisited the frightening experience while appearing on Kristin Cavallari’s podcast Let’s Be Honest. During the conversation, she also spoke about her recent cancer diagnosis.

In the early 2010s, Polizzi was one of reality television’s biggest earners and most talked-about personalities. At the height of her fame, she was reported to be bringing in around $150,000 per episode, before going on to appear in numerous other programs.

Known for her headline-grabbing party antics, her life took a major turn in 2012 when she learned she was pregnant — a new chapter she continued to share publicly with fans and critics alike.

After becoming a mom, Polizzi said the physical changes that came with pregnancy and breastfeeding left her feeling unhappy with her body. In 2016, she decided to pursue breast augmentation.

On the podcast, she described the impact of having Lorenzo and Giovanna with her husband, Jionni LaValle, saying it led her to feel like she needed a “little mommy makeover”.

She had previously explained her reasoning in a YouTube video at the time, saying: “Being a mom, your boobs are destroyed after having kids, especially breastfeeding. I want to be hot for my husband, but I also want to feel great about myself, and it was an insecurity that I had.”

Polizzi said she went into the procedure asking her surgeon for a “nice full C” cup — but the immediate aftermath was far more extreme than she expected.

“I woke up and it was like a dump truck on my [chest],” she said to Cavallari. “I couldn’t breathe. I was freaking out.”

She then admitted she did something patients are typically warned not to do after major surgery: she removed her bandages to look at the results.

“There was like a hole in my nipple. I was like, what is that? There were guts coming out,” she shared, on the May 19 podcast episode.

Even though Cavallari was clearly unsettled by the idea of checking the surgical site so soon, Polizzi said she could still see herself choosing the procedure again in the future — particularly after later expanding her family.

She also emphasized that the recovery was no small ordeal, calling it “definitely painful,” and explaining that it prevented her from lifting her children and made rest difficult. “At night I can’t really sleep because you have to sleep propped up,” she said.

Those restrictions are common following breast augmentation, which is considered major surgery. Healing can take weeks to months, and patients are often advised to avoid heavy lifting — including picking up children — during recovery.

More recently, Polizzi has faced another serious health challenge. In February, she revealed she had been diagnosed with stage one cervical cancer, and she told Cavallari the news left her overwhelmed.

She said it deeply scared her, adding: “I definitely had a breakdown. Like, oh my god, what am I gonna do? Like I got to get my will in place. Like, what’s going to happen? Like, planning my funeral. I was being so dramatic.”
